Financial Strength Rating
EMC has a rating of A (Excellent) with a stable outlook from AM Best Company. This rating is assigned to companies that have an excellent ability to meet their ongoing obligations to policyholders, in AM Best’s opinion.
According to the AM Best press release, “The ratings reflect EMC Insurance Companies’ balance sheet strength, which AM Best categorizes as strongest, as well as its adequate operating performance, neutral business profile and appropriate enterprise risk management (ERM).”
The A (Excellent) rating applies to Employers Mutual Casualty Company (EMCC) and its five property/casualty subsidiaries. The same rating and outlook has also been affirmed for EMC Reinsurance Company.
Strong Balance Sheet
EMC has a Best’s Capital Adequacy Ratio (BCAR)* of approximately 316 percent at year-end 2014, which indicates the company’s strong capital position. This ratio compares an insurer’s surplus to the capital required to support its operating and investment risks. The minimum requirement for an A rating is 145 and the minimum requirement for an A++ rating is 175.
